Growing In Faith Together

A Daily devotion written for the families of Divine Shepherd

A devotional formed around Luther’s Small Catechism

Each day when you begin you may make the sign of the Holy Cross and say:

In the Name of +Jesus+ amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Plate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Next meditate on the reading for the day and the discussion questions.

Inspiration of Scripture.      2nd Timothy 3:10-17

Memory work: vs 16-17

All Scripture Is Breathed Out by God

10¬†You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness,¬†11¬†my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me¬†at Antioch,¬†at Iconium, and¬†at Lystra‚ÄĒwhich persecutions I endured; yet¬†from them all¬†the Lord rescued me.¬†12¬†Indeed, all who desire to¬†live a godly life in Christ Jesus¬†will be persecuted,¬†13¬†while¬†evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and¬†being deceived.¬†14¬†But as for you,¬†continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it¬†15¬†and how¬†from childhood you have been acquainted with¬†the sacred writings,¬†which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.¬†16¬†All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,¬†17¬†that¬†the man of God may be complete,¬†equipped¬†for every good work.

Memory Work: vs. 17-18

The Word Became Flesh

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people[c] did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

14¬†And¬†the Word¬†became flesh and¬†dwelt among us,¬†and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son¬†from the Father, full of¬†grace and¬†truth.¬†15¬†(John bore witness about him, and cried out, ‚ÄúThis was he of whom I said,¬†‚ÄėHe who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.‚Äô‚ÄĚ)¬†For from¬†his fullness we have all received,¬†grace upon grace.¬†17¬†For¬†the law was given through Moses;¬†grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.¬†18¬†No one has ever seen God;¬†the only God,¬†who is at the Father's side,¬†he has made him known.

No One Is Righteous

9 What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, 10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;
